Affordable housing in Boston

• Boston lists income-restricted rentals in the city and the Greater Boston area on Metrolist, run by the City of Boston.
• A listing is a lottery, a first-come-first-served opening or a waitlist. You apply as the listing page says, and the application goes to the property's agent, not to the City.
• Each home has an income level (a share of the area median income) and often a minimum income; the limits depend on household size.
• If you are picked, the agent checks your income and assets before you can sign a lease.

The official site is Boston Metrolist. Its rules decide.
